Commonwealth games 2022: An opportunity of lifetime

In today’s blog we will have a look at the Commonwealth Games 2022 taking place in Birmingham and the opportunities it brings to our graduates. While it is an experience on its own to be a spectator, there are also other opportunities this event holds for you.

Firstly known as the British Empire Games, Commonwealth Games are much like the Olympics. The main difference between the two is that only the commonwealth countries are eligible to participate in these games. This has been a tradition since 1930, when in the first games only 11 countries participated. As of 2022, there are currently 72 nations participating in these games. Asides letting the athletic talents shine, the purpose of these games is to bring together people around the world and promote equality and diversity.

On top of having over 5000 athletes, already over a million tickets have been sold to spectators. With such large amounts of public, there is a need for spectator safety. There are currently over 1100 SIA licensed guards hired for this event to ensure that everyone is safe. This is where the opportunity lies for our students. Doing spectator safety courses enables you to spectate while also providing security for the public. The jobs listed right now mention a £30 per hour pay, which in my opinion is a quite remarkable amount.

The course itself lasts about 11-12 hours. It is an online course that can be undertaken from the comfort of your own home at your own pace. This qualification enables you to steward at sporting events or racing, festivals and concerts, stadiums and other places connected to dealing with crowds.

In addition to participating in Commonwealth games 2022, holding this qualification and getting more experience will allow you to travel and apply to work at another Commonwealth games taking place across the commonwealth nations every four years.

So what are you waiting for, grab this opportunity by the horns and book your course today!

See you in class,
